During the General Election, village rejuvenation was one of the biggest issues raised by local residents. Like everyone in the community, I’m delighted to see new businesses bringing fresh life to the Village - but long-term regeneration also requires strategic investment and mean

How each of us can help support bees and bumblebees
With one-third of Irish wild bee species threatened with extinction, local actions are crucial. We can take simple, actionable steps that align with the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan by providing food, shelter, and safety. Create Food Sources (Planting & Gardening): • Plant Pollinator-Friendly Flowers: Choose plants that provide both nectar and pollen, such as Purple Toadflax, Knapweed, Crocus, Honesty, Foxgloves and Heathers. • Focus on Early Spring: Plant spring-flowering b

The Village Shoemakers in the centre of Castleknock village has just stepped into Spring with a (nearly) new window display
Re-using preloved items is the theme of the design which shows that with a little imagination we can repurpose and use things in a different way without compromising style. The curtains were crocheted, the shoes were sourced in a local charity shop and the elves are ready for work in their lovely (home made) Spring clothes. Also An Gréasaí (which means the Shoemaker or Cobbler) might add ‘cúpla focal’ to people's vocabulary! Well done to Siún McDonald from Castleknock Tidy

Choose Peat-Free Compost – Protect Nature from the Ground Up
Why Avoid Peat? Peat has long been used in gardening for its light texture and ability to hold water — but it comes at a huge environmental cost. Peat is not a renewable resource on human timescales. It forms over thousands of years in peat bogs, which are precious carbon stores and wildlife habitats. When we extract peat for compost: ❌ Carbon is released — adding to climate change ❌ Rare habitats are destroyed, affecting plants, birds, and insects ❌ Biodiversity declines as
