On 9 June, Castleknock welcomed @Minister Jerry Buttimer, Emer Currie TD - Dublin West , a number of County Councillors John Walsh, Siobhan Shovlin, Ted Leddy, Eimear Carbone-Mangan and Fingal County Council Officials for an important discussion with Castleknock Tidy Towns and the Castleknock Business Forum on securing access to Government regeneration funding schemes.
Funding programmes such as the Town and Village Renewal Scheme play a vital role in turning community-led visions into real improvements for residents, businesses, and visitors. These supports can help bring the ambitions of a Town Centre First Plan to life and create lasting positive change. Castleknock does not currently qualify for funding and this meeting with the Minister was to lobby him to change the criteria.
Over the past seven years, Castleknock Tidy Towns has worked closely with the community to identify opportunities that will help Castleknock become a vibrant, sustainable village. During the visit, Castleknock Tidy Towns’ committee members presented a Town Centre First proposal outlining 4 key pillars, 6 projects, and 49 actions that we believe can support the future development of Castleknock.
Our four key pillars are:
Public Realm & Climate Action
Heritage
Traffic, Safety & Active Travel
Green Spaces, Nature, Biodiversity & Sustainability
If national policy is committed to creating vibrant, resilient, and sustainable communities, villages such as Castleknock should have equitable access to the funding needed to deliver regeneration and long-term benefits. Investing in Castleknock is an investment in people, place, and future generations.
We believe Castleknock presents a strong case for inclusion in Government regeneration schemes and look forward to a positive outcome.
