We want to keep Castleknock clean and green and part of that is edging grass verges. A well-cut edge as we know enhances the area. However, we want to reduce soil digging/ edging in a balanced way. Here’s Why Reducing soil digging is beneficial for the environment and the underground habitat.
Preserves Soil Structure: Minimizing disturbance maintains the natural soil structure, which is essential for water retention and root growth.
Protects Soil Organisms: Undisturbed soil provides a stable habitat for beneficial organisms like earthworms and microbes, which aid in nutrient cycling and plant health.
Reduces Erosion and Runoff: Keeping the soil intact helps prevent erosion and reduces nutrient runoff into waterways.
Enhances Carbon Sequestration: Less disturbance means more carbon is stored in the soil, aiding in climate change mitigation.
By adopting practices that minimize soil disturbance, we support a healthier ecosystem both above and below ground.
Let’s enjoy edging grass verges in a balanced way!
