Castleknock Heritage Trail launch

Updated: Aug 18, 2023

Yesterday two digital heritage trails were officially launched by Fingal County Council at County Hall, Swords. The Castleknock and Balbriggan trails are now available on the Dublin Discovery Trails app which is supported by Fáilte Ireland. The walking trails use augmented reality, animation and narration to bring alive the heritage, stories and significant people of the past in these two locations.

Castleknock and Balbriggan both have fascinating histories, cultures and points of significance that can now be explored by anyone through the Dublin Discovery App! The app, available to download on smartphones, will guide you on a journey of discovery to some of the city's most loved sites and attractions, enabling you to uncover compelling stories of Dublin's heritage through themed GPS-enabled walking trails.

The Castleknock Heritage Trail was supported by CTT and includes some video and drone footage produced by CTT in 2021 for the Castleknock Virtual Heritage Tour. Jim Lacey, Blanchardstown-Castleknock History Society also contributed materials to the heritage trail.

Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Adrian Henchy launched the trails along with Ethna Felten and Declan Power, FCC. Evelyn Pender and Declan Mescall attended on behalf of CTT.

Download the Dublin Discovery Trails on the App Store to your phone. And away you go!
