Our recent Castleknock Poster-Free Zone (PFZ) initiative was an outstanding success. A massive thank you goes out to all the Local and European candidates who supported our efforts.
With no posters on display the village and nearby approach roads were an oasis of calm in an otherwise cluttered city. This was certainly noticed and appreciated by the residents of Castleknock, who were 100% supportive. The hundreds of people who attended our recent coffee morning and commented positively about the PFZ were testament to that.
Interestingly it is sometimes said that poster bans are particularly harmful to first time candidates trying to get their names into the public domain. However, here in Castleknock during the recent local elections 50% (3 out of 6) of the successfully elected candidates were first time candidates for county council seats in this local electoral area so that surely disproves the argument.
We will of course request all candidates to respect the PFZ for the upcoming general election expected to be held by next March.
