On Friday 2nd Dec, the Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Howard Mahony officiated at the Lighting Up of this year's village Christmas tree. And the community sure did show up in their droves to enjoy the evening. There were hundreds and hundreds in attendance (on both sides of Castleknock Road) as can be seen from the videos (on Facebook).
This long awaiting community event was the idea of Castleknock TidyTowns and supported by the team at Fingal County Council's Operations Dept. On-point choral numbers and rousing carols were provided by St Brigid's NS Choir and Coolmine Musical Society. The beautiful music and wonderful singing added to the atmosphere and festive spirit and certainly got the crowd swaying and singing along. Thanks to Gardai Rory and Katie who looked after everyone's safety on a busy Friday evening.
A special thank you goes to Rev Colin, Church of Ireland Parish for facilitating the power supply and the use of St Brigid's Church to host the refreshments afterwards. Thanks to the CTT volunteers who spent the morning tidying up the village in advance of the event and who turned out in force to make it a real night to remember. Looking forward to this being an annual event in Castleknock's diary.
