Recently Castleknock TidyTowns held a high level “delegation meeting “ with Fingal County Council officials and public representatives. The main items on the agenda were (1) Investment in the renovation of Castleknock Village (2) Inclusion of Castleknock in the Town Centre First national scheme and (3) Issues to address the chronic traffic congestion in Castleknock.

Up to now Castleknock has been excluded from all of the government’s town and village rural/ urban renewal schemes so we were never able to access funding for the rejuvenation of the village. But now, as a direct result of our lobbying and advocacy, Castleknock will, for the very first time, be inducted into the Town Centre First National Scheme in September/October.

The Town Centre First initiative seeks to create a sustainable, heritage-led and community-driven vibrant heart for Castleknock, adapted for 21st-century needs and will give access to the necessary funding and support services to ensure the various projects identified will be fully achieved.

As a result of the delegation meeting further onsite meetings with relevant officials, the local community and businesses will be held to progress matters and a Town Team composed of interested parties and supported by Fingal Town Regeneration Officers will be established.
